The 8th INTERCEPT (INTERnational Course on Extracorporeal Perfusion Technologies) and Outcome Meeting will take place in Milan, April 7th -9th , 2011. Following the new format of last year, this Course maintains its identity of Perfusion-oriented meeting, but includes many other aspects related to the outcome of cardiac surgery patients. We have maintained the location downtown Milan, in the Congress Center of the Michelangelo Hotel, right in front of the Railway Station.
As usual this Course is directed towards cardiac anaesthesiologist, perfusionists, cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and will admit a limited number (150) of participants, in order to maintain its didactic profile. Official language is English
The structure of the Course is based on two and a half days of lectures, with a wide space dedicated to questions and answers, interactive sessions, workshops and practical sessions.
Throughout the whole course, there will be many interactive sessions with electronic voting system (INTERACT with the INTERCEPT).
On day 1 we will start with a Guest Lecture on Tenets, trials and tribulations by Dave Royston, Than the focus will continue on transfusions and coagulation, with session I addressing thrombin generation, and session II dedicated to transfusions and their impact on outcomes.
The focus on coagulation will continue on day 2 with the Coagulation Clinic, where the experts of the Faculty will present clinical cases to be debated with the audience.
Session III will be totally dedicated to the new TAVI technique, with a pro and con debate, and session IV will specifically address topics in the field of congenital heart patients. The impact of various comorbidities on outcome will be the topic of Session V. The day will be closed with 3 workshops, respectively focused on thromboelastography, heparin monitoring, and heparin reduction strategies.
Finally, on day 3, Session VI will be dedicated to new developments in CPB techniques, and the following session VII will host experts in the functional recovery of post-cardiac surgery patients
and will be dedicated to the long-term outcome. The course will end with an interactive session with questions related to the topics treated during the course. Answers will be ranked and the best 3 participants will be awarded.
